  • Assisted in tracking housing applications (NYCHA, Section 8, Mitchell Lama as well has housing lotteries subsidized with public funds) and ensuring that applications were processed
  • Restored electricity to 201 Madison Street by working with local elected officials and City Agencies against a derelict landlord
  • Worked closely with management staff within the NYCHA community resolve resident issues
  • Assisted NYCHA residents with filing Article 78 proceedings in Supreme Court within 4 months statute of limitations to challenge and administrative decision
  • Assisted tenants in Housing Court Holdover Proceedings
  • Negotiated Notice of Default, Non-Desirability, Chronic Delinquency, Non-Payment of Rent cases
  • Assisted tenants in obtaining adjournments for their court cases.
  • Worked closely with the staff at MFY Legal Services, LSNY Manhattan, Legal Aid Society and Good Old Lower East Side (GOLES).
  • Assisted paralegals on large litigation matters, including but not limited to housing cases(Non-Payment and Holdover Proceedings) and family abuse.

 

  • Fought to ensure compliance with public safety and environmental laws for our school children attending PS 137/134, where construction was on-going
  • Engaged in community outreach to increase awareness about open school enrollment for School District 1 and 2 public schools
  • Worked with community based organizations, local community contacts and social service providers to provide assistance to our senior citizens
  • Secured necessary permits for community outings for parents and children
  • Troubleshooted and resolved a multitude of community issues from potholes to noise proliferation.
  • Liaison to City, State, and Federal agencies, as well as elected officials.
  • In an individual capacity and as an employee of an elected official, attended community meetings accompanied by elected officials
  • Domestic Violence Cases: Assisted with referrals and appointments for medical care, legal representation and counseling, as well as assisted residents in obtaining emergency shelter, food and clothing.
  • Saved the homes of seniors and other long-time community residents at 375 Broome Street when the landlord tried to force eviction
  • Represented community residents in public housing in administrative hearings at 250 Broadway
  • Provided assistance for eviction prevention to individuals and families served with a 72 hour notice and/or marshal's notice
  • Assisted families in filling out housing applications
  • Provided guidance to  NYCHA community residents, and assisted in their preparation for appearances in administrative housing hearings.
  • Followed up and Tracked status on NYCHA Section 8 certification process known as the Tenant Selection Application Process (TSAP)
  • Helped with the review of NYCHA claims of permanent exclusion from household compositions and settlement of stipulation.
  • Attended NYCHA  Committee hearings and conferences.
